Vehicle fleet operators are now commencing a move towards zero emission electric vehicles. However, this creates substantial challenges for electricity networks to provide the necessary supply capacity. This can result in potentially high costs and delays to the operators' zero emission roll-out. This session will explore Optimise Prime, a 33m project to address the challenges for fleet operators and electricity networks, arising from the electrification of vehicle fleets. Hear how the program has brought together technology suppliers, vehicle fleet operators and electricity networks to utilize big data, IOT and optimization technologies to determine the impact on fleet and network operators on the move to EV, the role of IOT & data-driven forecasting and optimization to minimize the costs of this transition, and the future smart infrastructure requirements to support the EV roll-out.

France's public rail company, the Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Français (SNCF) has a keen focus on innovation. The company manages the scheduling, operations and maintenance of a network covering 30,000 km of track, 15,000 trains and 3,000 stations in France. This session highlights the journey of migrating from preventive maintenance to current IoT predictive maintenance using non-intrusive mobile sensors and deep-learning algorithms to detect alerts and predict diagnosis and consequences. SNCF has set up a Digital Open Lab (DOL) to foster open innovation and develop interest from the Industry. After one year of the DOL, results are encouraging. Meanwhile, the maturity of the IoT technology and the ROI of the use case will be presented. Discover how, by life observation and predicting maintenance requirements, SNCF can have a more efficient supervision, and prevent outage on the network.

29-10-2019 18:15 29-10-2019 19:00 Europe/Madrid CT-11 – The Future of Information Technology through the Eyes of Intelligent Connected Vehicles

Connected & autonomous vehicles will generate zettabytes of data and collect just as much from their surrounding environment. In fact, some of the data that should arguably be publicly accessible can help create products and services such as improved brakes that may eventually become standard. Creating cost-effective ecosystems is key to achieving the highest ROI. In this session, we will explore what data should be stored in the vehicle, the cloud, the edge, or at a data center; how data is collected from other vehicles, infrastructure, and the environment through sensors; and how to set up data management systems to collect, index, and tag the data to aid analysis and support AI workloads. We will consider different scenarios, such as using black box systems vs. allowing small data sets that can be translated to stakeholders such as governments and other organizations.
