There are several networking wireless technologies that drive and connect smart infrastructure and cities, from transport systems, smart buildings and spaces, energy and security. IoT, including telemetry and control data, adds requirements to existing technologies that were not built with IoT in mind. How will the technologies of the future meet this need? In this session we explore several such networking technologies and explore their applicability to various use cases. Panelists will cover technologies such as LoRaWAN, 5G, and Zigbee.

Buildings come in all shapes and sizes, but historic, noteworthy, and iconic buildings and infrastructure are something to treasure. Dated buildings and infrastructure can be seen in almost every major city across the US and Europe. Inefficiencies are becoming problematic in lighting, water usage, heating, cooling, airflow, plumbing and more. In this session we will hear from key building and infrastructure stakeholders on best practices for upgrading dated infrastructure with smart, connected solutions. Who are the key stakeholders, where do you start, and what is a viable roadmap for engaging in such transformative projects with so much at stake?  We will learn about key efficiency gains, performance contracts, and budget-friendly long-term financial savings that enable these projects to deliver meaningful results.

To understand how air quality works and protect citizens from harm, City Managers in Kuwait and Doha have implemented a real-time IoT monitoring network of 90 ambient electronic noses and air quality sensors placed in areas across the city. These detect harmful pollutants and gases in real-time within the ambient air. In this session you will learn how they use the data collected in the cloud to provide city managers insights for immediate actions to reduce harm on city residents. Discover how they use atmospheric dispersion models, validated by several organizations such as the US EPA, together with wind data to determine the likely source of a measured impact.
