The rapid evolution of mobility platforms and transportation is creating new and serious business and technical challenges driven by the expected Peta and Zetta scale data capture and processing. The new complex ecosystems enabled by AI and Industrial IoT will need to manage this information alongside relevant metadata to offer ways to support the key stakeholders and monetize their services. Other challenges include regulatory and data protection compliance. This workshop will cover the challenges and explore solutions and state of the art research addressing current business and technical limitations.

This moderated, yet totally unscripted, panel of participants will interact heavily with the audience to discuss the newest trends, previous successes and failures, and future of IoT as it relates to Connected Transportation. Attendees in the session can prod for practical aspects around engaging in new IoT technology, developing IoT adoption models, and what to watch.

Due to the automotive industry's deep penetration into modern society, new technologies such as electrification, autonomous driving, and connected vehicle are advancing automotive capabilities at a dizzying rate. We explore how these technologies evolved in automotive and what considerations are important going forward. On the flip-side, there are concerns related to the safety of these vehicles, as well as their reliability, due to the rapid innovation and technological adoption. Concerns around the security, privacy, and resilience of these new vehicles abound. This panel of experts explores the evolution of automotive up through today, the impact of IoT on the vehicles, and what considerations may be important going forward. What are the impacts of technology on the reliability of the vehicles? How do the evolving privacy considerations come into play?  The panel will be quite interactive with the audience.

This session will explore visible light communication, considered as a potential secondary channel for 5G wireless communications, and gaining extensive attention. Discover how VLC has strengths in energy efficiency and ultra-wide bandwidth, but also has weakness in transmission range and obstacles in transmission paths. This session discusses VLC as a part of resilient 5G wireless communication in transportation systems.
