A top US automobile manufacturer is moving to JSON and MQTT as a standard way to digitize their factories for data collection, commands, alerts, recipe management, etc. The challenge is getting tens of thousands of PLCs from various manufacturers and models to work well with MQTT. The cost of this project is enormous and they need a low-cost solution that delivers the solution quickly. You will learn how to use MQTT, OPC UA, MQTT and JSON to digitize your manufacturing processes at low cost and fast time to market. This approach reduces the cost and speed of digitalization by 4000% while greatly increasing your ability to quickly and repeatedly evolve manufacturing processes.

Many legacy systems are facing the challenges of Industry 4.0 and how to integrate their equipment with IT and the Cloud. This study presents how a large city in North America hired a systems integrator to integrate 120 water pumps, PLCs, and large sludge dewatering equipment with Azure IoT cloud for real-time dashboards, analytics, and machine learning. City managers use this information to shift from large capital purchases to an Equipment as a Service model based on actual usage fees. Using low-code, edge computing paradigms, this solution was designed and implemented in record time.
