From facial recognition tracking us, to AI taking over human work, to overall issues of data privacy, recent headlines have made much about all there is to fear from technology. In this panel, we take a step back to examine where – and if – that fear actually exists. Examining the results of a global survey, we will explore individuals’ feelings about the effects specific technologies have on their lives and careers – do they expect help or hindrance? The discussion will highlight survey results and engage with experts on technology, humans, and society to form a basis for understanding and a road map for managing technology anxiety (or enthusiasm!).

Blockchain-based systems can be used for verifying certificates, licenses, university degrees, & professional skills. For example, utility companies, in partnership with compliance organizations can implement a blockchain-based credentials system for technicians who go to people’s homes, where physical licenses are replaced by digital ones that can be activated and deactivated by those authorized, and seen, tracked and trusted by all ecosystem participants. In a similar fashion, educational institutions can digitize and secure degrees, qualifications & achievements using blockchain technology. This panel will discuss what has already been implemented, what projects are moving into production, as well as which organizations are driving this and why.

27% of corporate IoT transformation projects are stuck in proof of concept limbo. What’s the solution? This session will explore insights from our latest industry pulse report, highlighting three different case studies connected by one crucial factor: the central role of people in the success and scaling of IoT transformation. An automotive OEM launched a 5-year rollout of an enterprise software solution intended to streamline productivity across the company. An international multichannel distribution company needed to develop, validate and realize a best-in-class mobile solution to support its technicians. A major food packaging company made a significant investment in its equipment, including state-of-the-art automation. But anticipated results remained elusive. What was missing? An IoT transformation plan that included people.

A digital transformation is often motivated by the promises of efficiency, performance, and quality gains thanks to the automation, integration, and streamlining of business and/or engineering processes. This reliance on digital data creates a new point of failure and a source of (digital) threats that need to be addressed. Failing to address these treats will not only prevent organizations from reaching the full potential of a digital transformation but can also result in catastrophic consequences. In this talk, we will discuss the digitization of manufacturing, the digital threat(s), and how organizations could leverage blockchain to reduce the digital threats.

In Russia, 70% of drinking water comes from the surface. Water pollution is a major issue in this country, with more than 10 million Russians currently lacking access to quality drinking water. Around 60% of the total reserves of drinking water do not meet sanitary standards. This fact favors the proliferation of health issues as only 8% of the wastewater is correctly treated before being returned to the waterways.

This session explores the Drone on the Volga project that measures water pollution in the Kuybyshev Reservoir, the largest water reservoir in Eurasia, located in the Volga river.  Through a combination of modern robotics, blockchain and IoT for environmental monitoring, see how they have built a base of continuous control of pollutants in water environments and how a matrix of data coming from many of these drones can feed AI systems to easily and quickly detect pollution sources.

Connected & autonomous vehicles will generate zettabytes of data and collect just as much from their surrounding environment. In fact, some of the data that should arguably be publicly accessible can help create products and services such as improved brakes that may eventually become standard. Creating cost-effective ecosystems is key to achieving the highest ROI. In this session, we will explore what data should be stored in the vehicle, the cloud, the edge, or at a data center; how data is collected from other vehicles, infrastructure, and the environment through sensors; and how to set up data management systems to collect, index, and tag the data to aid analysis and support AI workloads. We will consider different scenarios, such as using black box systems vs. allowing small data sets that can be translated to stakeholders such as governments and other organizations.

The value of driving 'AI & analytics to the edge' has been demonstrated over 'sensor to cloud', but this means deploying new processes, protocols and servers across the manufacturing floor. The challenge then becomes how to manage these new servers while maintaining data integrity, security and availability. Scaling from a small proof-of-concept environment, to a smart factory can challenge even the most willing manufacturer. Through collaboration between IT and OT teams, manufacturers have been able to standardize and deploy industrial grade IT infrastructure with proven IT management, ensuring scalability, security and manageability. Join this dynamic session to hear how a leading tools manufacturer, a global automotive manufacturer, and several other customers have overcome the PoC to production scaling challenges.

30-10-2019 09:00 30-10-2019 09:45 Europe/Madrid AI-10 – The Age of Artificial Intelligence: What will the world look like in 10 years?

AI is powering the breakneck transition from the Information Age to the Age of Intelligent Machines and creating profound changes in business and society. Autonomous cars, personalized medicine, chatbots and co-bots, and other types of intelligent machines promise to automate processes, boost efficiencies, and create new disruptive products and services. But these intelligent machines will also track our every move, create and expose societal biases, eliminate jobs, and, some fear, will one day develop a will of their own and go rogue. In his talk, Joe will offer a perspective on the future of AI and machine-learning technologies. He will explain the principles of AI and machine learning technologies, what they can and cannot do (at least not in the foreseeable future), and discuss the opportunities and threats posed by autonomous machines in a future dominated by AI.

In Madrid, as in any other big city, the combination of public and private mobility services promise to provide citizens new ways of transport that could help to reduce the number of cars in the city. One important friction point for citizens to start using mobility services is that each service require an independent "onboarding" in the operator "APP" to be able to use the service. This session will explore the easy and unique "onboarding" citizens can use to pay for mobility services in Madrid without using/downloading the operators apps. Thanks to blockchain technology, the mobility ecosystem can authenticate and validate users, register transactions for payments and shared operational data between the different participants, facilitating the access of citizens to their services maintaining citizens data privacy.

In industrial factory automation, the OPC Foundation's Unified Architecture (OPC UA) has fast become the universal interoperability foundation for structuring and accessing metadata and configuration of complex factory systems down to the smallest components, and for flowing state information and telemetry between the components of such systems and providing telemetry and process data into external business and control systems, either on the factory floor or in the cloud. The DIN 92222 standardization effort builds on this foundation and attempts to answer the question how the value proposition of 'product as a service' can be realized for all suppliers in the industrial equipment supply chain: How can the manufacturer of a sensor built into a drive built into a robot that is part of a production cell get access to live telemetry information from its product? How are telemetry streams structured? How are they routed and filtered and split? How are trade secrets protected?

If a company provides data for 3D-printing, it is important that its IP is protected and the part is only printed as permitted. An airline must be sure that a spare part is original and not counterfeit and was manufactured with the right parameters. These challenges can be met by Blockchain technology and additive manufacturing. By combining both technologies it is possible to liscence printing processes and establish a secure chain of trust from the IP-Owner, integrating a print service provider and 3D-printer up to the end user. The presentation provides a live demonstration of these use cases, using blockchain.
