The Ferdinand Steinbeis Institute (FSTI) of the Steinbeis Foundation is a research institute focusing on digitalization and connectivity. To this end, the FSTI addresses the connection of physical objects with digital platforms in its research work as well as in transfer-oriented projects. Connectivity makes it possible to collect large amounts of data for the design of digital services that enable customers to meet their needs more closely. Due to the use of the Internet as the basis for digital platforms, these services can be developed domain-independently and thus enable interoperability across different areas. Requirements for the trustworthiness of the new technologies used arise, for which solutions must be created with regard to security, data protection, etc.. Technological change combined with cultural changes lead to political, social and economic impacts, which must also be taken into account

In this context, the FSTI structures the research area “Digitalization  and Connectivity” into the following research areas:

  • Industrial Internet / Industry 4.0
  • Autonomization and Trustworthiness
  • Digitalization  and Society
  • Innovation and transfer management
