COMMUNICATION & CONTROL TESTBED FOR MICROGRID APPLICATIONS

ENERGY & UTILITIES

There are many challenges today with traditional grid design including increasing demand, new electrical loads, and aging infrastructure. The Microgrid Communication and Control Testbed will introduce the flexibility of real-time analytics and control to increase efficiencies in this legacy process – ensuring that power is generated more accurately and reliably. This Testbed is designed to show how processing, communication, and monitoring technologies can help improve grid efficiency and resiliency. Microgrid technology is thought of as a critical component to help properly manage the growing adoption of renewable generation technology such as wind and solar.
COMPANIES:
CONTINIOUS NOISE MONITORING AND SOUND EVENT DETECTION & IDENTIFICATION

INNOVATION & TECHNOLOGY

An online portal with continuous information of sound levels and sound detection and identification of events will be presented as an exposition testbed. The solution uses the information captured by a network of multichannel microphones to monitor and study the impact of sound in urban environments supported by FIWARE platform. With advanced and innovative 3D audio technologies FI-Sonic measures noise and extracts the relevant information about the sound events such as unusual sound levels, the location of sound events, accidents, gun shots, distress situations.

COMPANIES:
ENERGY, INFORMATION AND AVATARS

ENERGY & UTILITIES

Schneider Electric will demonstrate an array of four, dual-axis solar panels that rotate to track the movement of the sun. While this system does optimize solar energy production, the true innovation comes from the real-time synchronous link between each panel and its digital model. When a physical system is connected in such a symbiotic relationship with its virtual representation, we call the resulting interconnected system a “cyber-physical avatar”.
Using augmented reality, Schneider will provide an interactive experience in which users can view health and status data from the panels, receive training in installation and field maintenance procedures, and even control the physical orientation of the array.

COMPANIES:
INDUSTRIAL IOT BENEATH OUR CITIES, INTEROPERABILITY AND IPV6

INNOVATION & TECHNOLOGY

This testbed will give you the instruments to change conditions of a water stream, then watch how the system reacts by using IoT technologies like low power wireless, IPv6 or FIWARE. Follow the path that starts with a water sensor and continues as a data flow, becoming valuable information for water management. A single sensor may be valuable for many stakeholders, like the Water Utility, the local government, the Port Authority or a farmer association. To allow sharing data (between different organizations or within a single organization) they use an API called FIWARE NGSI which is part of a standardization initiative for Smart Cities and is available as Open Source.

COMPANIES:
REMOTE PATIENT MONITORING

HEALTHCARE

Cognizant’s Remote Patient Monitoring solution, powered by Microsoft’s Azure Internet-of-Things platform, empowers healthcare providers to transform the patient care relationship while mitigating the challenges impeding innovation and outcomes. Our simple, easy-to-use solution not only helps provide personalized patient care anytime, anywhere, but also enables better care team collaboration with a holistic, near real-time. The solution has three core components: a Patient Application, a Care Team Dashboard and Alerts & Notifications. Cognizant has a proven approach that can help Healthcare get started on identifying the best strategy-guided ideation that is a right fit for the organization.
COMPANIES:
SMART AIRLINE BAGGAGE MANAGEMENT

TRANSPORTATION & LOGISTICS

Today about 7 out of 1000 airline bags are mishandled (delayed, damaged or lost). The testbed demonstration will be shown using live and emulated devices (such as airline baggage and ground reader) and data. Actual smart baggage trackers / RFID sensors will be shown that generate live data when they move – illustrating how the trackers are used with and applied to airline checked bags generating baggage data and alerts. To demonstrate how geographically tracking a bag’s progress from departure airport to arrival airport, works within the testbed applications (delivering data to airline systems, baggage management company systems and to passengers with smartphones) the testbed uses small smart devices that emulate a bags passage, and the geo-location messages and alerts it generates, through the airport and airline systems from checkin to baggage collection at the carousel.
COMPANIES:
SURGICAL KIT TRACKING SOLUTION

HEALTHCARE

System integrator HCL leveraged various technologies to develop a surgical kit tracking solution for a leading multinational medical devices player. Currently there is a lack of approach to effectively track, route and reduce surgical kit inventory – worth billions of dollars. This IoT solution for a classic inventory management problem with added technical complexity of stringent healthcare requirements, is based on holistic approach to address a business problem – maintaining optimal inventory of assets (surgical kits) to meet uncertain and stringent demands of Providers (hospitals).

Time-Sensitive Networking Testbed

MANUFACTURING

The goal of this testbed is to display the value of new Ethernet standards referred to as Time-Sensitive Networks in a Manufacturing ecosystem of applications. TSN enables a standard, single, open network infrastructure supporting multi-vendor interoperability and integration. The technology will be used to support real-time control and synchronization of high performance machines over a single, standard Ethernet network. This testbed proposes to be an early implementation of TSN. As such, it will show the value of the technology as well as some of the challenges in implementations from a number vendors. This testbed will not only document some of the value, but will provide feedback to the relevant standards organizations on areas of further clarification or improvement.

COMPANIES:

Transformation of business operations through IoT enabled edge to cloud video, sensors and advanced analytics

BUSINESS TRANSFORMATION

The objective of this testbed is to demonstrate the latest transformational capabilities that exist in the service industry using IoT technologies – video analytics, smart screens and advanced dynamic analytics and big data to elevate the customer experience – utilizing a cloud IoT platform. The testbed will consist of NEC and select ecosystem partners providing edge sensors, gateways, user communication devices and edge video analytics engines all generating IoT data. Exhibit attendees will interact and have a hands-on experience with the technology while experiencing its transformational business outcomes. While a retail scenario is used to provide attendees with a familiar experience, the concepts and technology are readily transferrable to any other service, public sector, justice and public safety, or transactional based business or industry.

COMPANIES:

Your business, your way – Keep your commercial fleet ahead with dynamic insights

TRANSPORTATION & LOGISTICS

Telefonica Fleet Management testbed will show how B2B customers from different industry segments can benefit from vehicle telematics solutions and the best way to support them through the digital transformation process. Taking into account that each customer has different needs, business requirements and processes, vehicle telematics can play an important role to improve them and through this testbed we will show that it is not only a matter of processes but of counselling and advising work, defining use cases adapted to their needs.
